What to Wear for Parent Poses During Your Newborn Session

One of the most common things I hear from new moms before their newborn session is, “I have nothing to wear!” After just welcoming a new baby, the last thing you should have to worry about is shopping for the perfect outfit for photos. The good news is that you truly do not need a brand new wardrobe to create beautiful, timeless portraits with your little one.
Here’s a little secret that makes outfit planning so much easier: black is almost always a perfect choice.
Most people already have something black in their closet, whether it’s a simple fitted t-shirt, a cozy sweater, or a classic black dress. Black photographs beautifully because it is flattering, timeless, and neutral. It keeps the focus on your baby while softly highlighting all those tiny newborn details like delicate eyelashes, little fingers, and sleepy expressions. It also creates a clean, elegant look that never goes out of style.
A black dress works beautifully if you want a slightly more elevated look, while a fitted or flowy black top can be paired with leggings or jeans for comfort. And for dads, a simple black t-shirt is classic, easy, and looks great next to baby’s delicate outfits and wraps.
I also have a carefully selected wardrobe of dresses that you are more than welcome to wear during your session. These pieces are chosen to be comfortable, flattering, and photograph beautifully, giving you one less thing to think about when preparing for your session.
The goal is never to distract from what matters most, your connection as a family and those first cuddles with your newborn. Black provides a clean, timeless look that works for everyone and blends seamlessly with the cozy wraps, tiny outfits, and textures we will use for your baby.
