Planning your baby girl’s first birthday cake smash? This is one of my absolute favourite sessions to design. There are so many beautiful directions you can go, and honestly… you really can’t go wrong. Whether you love something soft and simple or fun and whimsical, we can create something that feels perfect for your little one.

I always lean toward timeless setups with a bit of personality mixed in. Think classic, soft colours with a little twist. Something that will still look beautiful years from now, but also feels fun and age appropriate.
Let’s talk about some of my favourite themes for girls.
If you want something playful, dreamy, and full of imagination, these themes are always a hit.
Unicorns & Rainbows
A classic for a reason. Soft pastel balloons, touches of colour, and a little magic. It’s bright and fun without being overwhelming.
Fairytale Princess
Think soft pinks, creams, and gold accents. A simple castle backdrop, maybe a crown, and you’ve got a timeless princess look.
Mermaid
Teal, purple, and a bit of shimmer. Add some shells and soft textures and it feels whimsical without being too busy.
Enchanted Forest / Garden
This is one of my personal favourites. Faux moss, florals, soft greenery, and little woodland touches. It feels like a storybook.
Alice in Wonderland
Such a fun and creative option. A tiny tea party setup, soft pastels, and whimsical details. It’s playful and unique.
Teddy Bear Picnic
Simple, cozy, and classic. Neutral tones, soft textures, and sweet little teddy bears. This one photographs beautifully.
Berry Cute (Strawberry Theme)
This one is so fun. Little strawberries, soft reds and pinks, maybe a gingham pattern. It’s playful, bright, and adorable for a first birthday.
Princess
A little different from the fairytale setup, this one focuses more on soft elegance. Think blush tones, delicate details, maybe a crown or simple throne chair. Very sweet and timeless.
Final Thoughts
The best part about cake smash sessions is that we can fully customize them. You can go all out with a themed setup, or keep it simple with soft colours and textures. I always recommend something that fits your style as a family and something you won’t get tired of looking at.
Some parents love bold and playful, others love clean and minimal. Most of my clients end up somewhere in the middle… which is honestly my favourite place to be.
If you’re not sure what direction to go, I’m always happy to help design something with you. That’s half the fun.
