One of the most common questions I hear from new parents is:

"Do we need to bring clothes for our newborn?"

The honest answer is — no, you don’t! You're more than welcome to bring something special if you'd like, but rest assured that I have everything we need to style your session beautifully and comfortably.

Wraps Are the Foundation of the Session

Most newborn sessions begin with baby wrapped up snugly, and there’s a reason for that. Wrapping helps babies feel secure, warm, and comforted — just like when they were in the womb. It also helps them settle more easily, fall asleep, and stay asleep longer during the session. A cozy, wrapped baby is much less likely to startle, which makes for a smoother and more relaxed experience for everyone.

I use a wide variety of soft, stretchy wraps made from beautiful fabrics including knits, scarves and cheesecloth. The colors are carefully chosen to keep the focus on your baby — soft neutrals, creams, blushes, dusty blues, and warm earth tones that work with every skin tone and feel timeless in your final gallery.

Tiny Outfits Made Just for Photos

Once your baby is settled and sleepy, we’ll often transition into a few outfit setups. And no — I don’t mean the regular newborn clothes you find in stores. The pieces I use are specifically made for newborn photography.

They're smaller than standard newborn clothing, often handmade, and designed with soft seams and no bulky diapers in mind. The fit is snug and perfect for showcasing your baby’s features without bunching or folding awkwardly in photos. I have darling knit onesies, teeny tiny dresses, little rompers with delicate details, and classic baby boy looks that are neutral, timeless, and oh-so-adorable.

These outfits photograph beautifully and are meant to complement the posing, props, and overall feel of your session. Most of the time, baby won’t even need to wear more than a wrap and one or two of these pieces. Everything is clean, sanitized, and ready to go before your session begins.

I also like to use outfits for sibling and family photos as they keep everything covered but keep arms and legs mobile for different posing options.

You're Welcome to Bring Something Too

If there’s a special outfit, handmade blanket, or family heirloom you’d love to include — absolutely bring it. I’m always happy to work personal touches into the session when possible. Some families bring a sentimental outfit, a swaddle from the hospital, or even a tiny pair of booties that belonged to a sibling. These small details can make your session even more meaningful and unique to your story. Many families also have a cute outfit at home that they want to include and that's great!

But if you're feeling overwhelmed, packing up for your first outing with your newborn, and wondering what you need to bring — let me take one thing off your plate. You really don’t need to bring baby clothes.

Just bring your beautiful little one, and I’ll take care of the rest.

Everything in the studio is designed with newborns in mind — from the outfits and wraps to the warm temperature and calm atmosphere. My goal is to create a peaceful, baby-led experience that feels relaxed and supported every step of the way.

So no worries — your baby is already perfect, and I’ve got everything we need to make the session just as perfect, too.
